National Conference on Volunteering & Service – a recap

SnapImpact made a grand showing at NCVS this year!  With Rich Grote, Dave Angulo, & Fiona Schlachter leading the charge, we had an exciting coming-out party.  Here’s a quick summary, in interview mode, with Rich Grote in his best fake Australian accent.  You’ll have to use your imagination, but we’re laughing.

Me:  Hey Rich! You just got back from NCVS!  How’d it go?

Rich:  G’day.

Rich: It was great.  Really funtastic.  F’in awesome.  Got to hang out with the Flotus.  You know, the First Lady of the United States.  Brilliant.  And Fiona got to see her rock star crush, Bon Jovi.  Although he was kind of a soft rock Bon Jovi.  Last thing you want to do is have ladies knickers thrown at you in a Volunteer conference.

Me: Uh, that’s great.  Ladies underware and Michele Obama in the same thought.  Didn’t you launch Snap Impact there?

Rich:  We didn’t launch it, just demo’ed.  We talked to the good folks from Volunteer Match and HandsonNetwork, you know they’re the two big dingos in the playground.  And they loved us so much that they agreed to lob us their data as their iPhone partner.   Then there was AllForGood.org.  Some of the Google people and some of the Craigslist people got together and decided to make all the volunteer info easy to get to.  They created AllForGood.org, and they’re already kickin the data over to Serve.gov.  Pretty slick if you ask me.  And that means we could stop focusing on data scrubbin’ and really focus on mobile apps, like our first baby iVolunteer on the iPhone.

Me:  So does that mean AllForGood.org is partering with us?

Rich:  Yes, except we’re in a race.  AllForGood.org has said they want to use us as their iPhone app, but they also gave us a good kick in the arse in hinting we weren’t the only ones working on it.  So our dev team has cranked into high gear and we’ll be launching the app hopefully this month.  And Fiona wants to volunteer to help Jon Bon Jovi get his groove back.

Me:  Well alrighty then.  Sounds like a great event.

Rich:  Fair dinkum mate.  Wanna go grab a vegamite & a Fosters?
